2023 Birthday/Thanksgiving weekend

We visited Tobermory which is a pleasant little harbor village located on the north tip of the Bruce Peninsula, in the province of Ontario.

The whole area around Tobermory is famous for its turquoise, crystal-clear waters surrounded by jagged cliffs. The clear and turquoise waters are due to the water chemistry in the area. Therefore, the water is less acidic and higher in alkalinity as well as dissolved minerals.

Just southeast, Bruce Peninsula National Park is known for the Bruce Trail footpath on the craggy Niagara Escarpment, and the Grotto, a wave-carved cave in Georgian Bay.

The Bruce Peninsula is home to diverse and unique animals and plants, including some of the oldest living trees in the world.

We went, got a map from the office, and set off on a hike to the Grotto.

The Grotto is a cave with a natural pool of clear blue water and Indian Head Cove is a scenic inlet located next to the Grotto. These two popular attractions are located along the Georgian Bay shoreline in Bruce Peninsula National Park and are reached by hiking about a half-hour from Cyprus Lake.

We then headed to our next stop: Tobermory Lookout Tower

Worth climbing 112 steps!

Bruce Trail to Little Dunks Bay Lookout

This short section of the Bruce Trail meanders through the lush cedar forest, along mossy-covered ridges, and reaches a viewing platform that overlooks Little Dunks Bay, a secluded and scenic cove of Georgian Bay.

Big Tub Lighthouse

Big Tub Lighthouse is an active lighthouse originally lit in 1885 and is still used up to this day. The lighthouse is built from timber and it is painted white.

A very serene place to hang out.

Tobermory Brewing Company and Grill

The staff were friendly and the food was great.

Tobermory Coffee Company Café

We stopped in for coffee and a bagel for breakfast on a whim and it was the right choice! The 2 coffee blends (named after Grotto & Flower Pot) we tried were distinctly different in taste.

In conclusion, spending a weekend in Tobermory is a delightful and rewarding experience for nature enthusiasts, outdoor adventurers, and anyone seeking a peaceful getaway.

View from our room

Wayside Chapel, Shallow Lake

Just west of Owen Sound is one of the smallest churches in Ontario (similar to Living Water Wayside Chapel located at Niagara-on-the-Lake). Known as the Wayside Chapel, it has room inside for 6-10 people. It is approximately 12 feet tall and maybe 30 feet long.

This little church is a fun stop to make on a long road trip. The space inside is minimal, with a few wooden seats, some windows, and a small altar.

Sabitri's, Nepalese And Indian Food

We stopped for lunch and found this place which has great food in Owen Sound! The spices are phenomenal, the portions are large. It is very reasonably priced for the quality of the food. The restaurant serves top-notch Momos and has great ethnic interiors.

On our way back to Mississauga
